Word-of-Mouth Reward Engine

Drop-in referral tracking for small businesses that currently run word-of-mouth rewards on a spreadsheet.

$20–$100 per customer, per month

Overview

What this is

A hosted referral programme a non-technical business owner can set up in an afternoon: generate a link or code per customer, track who referred whom, trigger the reward automatically, and show the owner a simple leaderboard of who is actually sending business. The important part is that it works for offline businesses too — a code read out at a front desk needs to count the same as a link click.

The problem it solves

Small businesses know referrals are their best channel and almost all of them track it by memory or in a spreadsheet. Rewards get forgotten, customers stop bothering, and the owner has no idea which of their customers are actually driving new business. Enterprise referral platforms exist but are priced and scoped for companies with a growth team.

Why now

Payment and messaging APIs made the reward side trivial — you can issue a discount code, a store credit or a payout without building any of it yourself. The remaining work is the boring, valuable part: attribution a non-technical owner can trust and explain to a customer.

The evidence

What to watch out for

The market has incumbents at the top end, so you win on setup time and price, not features. Offline attribution is the genuinely differentiated piece and also the fiddliest — get it right and it is your moat.
